The Effect of Mother¡¯s Oral Health attitude and Knowledge on Perception of Proper Timing of Children¡¯s Orthodontic Treatment

Abstract
This thesis is to understand mother¡¯s dental health beliefs and knowledge of orthodontic treatment, examine the effects that these elements have on the perception of children¡¯s proper orthodontic treatment point of time, and recognize proper orthodontic treatment knowledge. Through these processes, the thesis is willing to be utilized as educational resource of oral health for improving the recognition of proper orthodontic treatment time. The self-answering questionnaire was conducted to 588 mothers whose children were attending kindergartens, elementary schools, middle schools, high schools and universities in Daegu. The results of this study are as follows; According to the result from conducting regression analysis between sociodemographic factors and importance of oral belief, statistically, the age significantly had negative relationship and the number of children as well as occupation of the mothers significantly had positive relationship. According to the result from conducting regression analysis between sociodemographic factors and seriousness of oral belief, statistically, the age significantly had positive relationship and the number of children significantly negative relationship. According to the result from conducting regression analysis between sociodemographic factors and oral health knowledge, statistically, the age significantly had positiverelationship and with oral health education. The more oral health knowledge one had, the less one is aware of proper orthodontic treatment timing. The more knowledge about orthodontic treatment one had, the more awareness about proper orthodontic treatment timing one had. The benefit of oral health belief and recognition of proper orthodontic treatment timing showed inverse relationship. Meanwhile, seriousness of oral health and recognition of proper orthodontic treatment timing showed direct relationship. Consequently, we have to try to prevent and treatmalocculusion through educating orthodontic treatment to housekeepers, and mothers in low-income family and with more children.
